V4AI

In response to the dynamic development of artificial intelligence tools in the academic environment, four universities from the Visegrad Group region are jointly implementing the project V4AI: Improving AI Use in Higher Education and Research Across the Visegrad Region. The aim of this initiative is to promote the responsible and effective use of AI by students, academic staff, and researchers, while also establishing long-term foundations for enhancing digital competences in the region.

Why now?

In recent years, we have witnessed a rapid increase in the number of available AI tools. While in 2020 only two large-scale AI models existed on the market, by 2023 this number had risen to 110, and in 2024 it reached 127. A particularly significant role is played by large language models (LLMs), which increasingly support both teaching and research processes. Declining costs of access to technology, the growing availability of open solutions, and the rapid increase in the number of users, including students, have created entirely new educational challenges for universities. According to recent studies, as many as 68% of students currently make use of AI tools in their learning.

Project activities

The project is based on the exchange of knowledge and experience among the four universities of the V4 region. Its key components include:

  • a cycle of four workshops, each hosted by one of the partner universities, dedicated to different aspects of AI use in higher education;
  • the participation of experts from academia, industry, and public institutions, ensuring the high academic quality of all events;
  • the creation of a digital platform featuring an open portfolio of successful AI implementations in education and research, serving as a knowledge hub and source of inspiration;
  • the development of guidelines and best practices jointly prepared by the consortium partners.

Value for the V4 region

The project addresses the shared challenges faced by universities in Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary, all of which operate under similar educational, financial, and legal conditions. Through joint workshops and digital resources, the initiative will:

  • strengthen the competences of academic staff and researchers in the field of AI,
  • introduce modern teaching methods that prepare students for the labor market,
  • enhance the competitiveness of universities in the region within the broader European context,
  • foster the creation of an AI expert network and lay the groundwork for future research collaborations (e.g., within the HORIZON programmes).

Long-term impact

One of the most important outcomes of the project will be a digital platform that will remain an open resource for the academic community even after the grant period. Furthermore, the project is intended to serve as a foundation for future research initiatives and joint international applications, thereby contributing to increased innovation across the region.
